Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea says he was happy to secure three points on 25th birthday

David De Gea says he was thrilled to celebrate his 25th birthday with three points after Manchester United beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at Old Trafford.

United youngster Jesse Lingard lifted the pressure off Louis van Gaal’s side as the England Under-21 international scored the opener with his first goal for the 20-time English champions.

West Brom defender Gareth McAuley was sent off after he hauled down Anthony Martial in the box on the stroke of full-time and Juan Mata dispatched the penalty to seal the win.

And another Spain international, De Gea, was delighted to play his part in a comfortable victory over the Baggies on a landmark day for the United shot stopper on Saturday.

De Gea wrote on his Instagram page: “Turning 25 with a win in Old Trafford is just great! Thank you all!! #MUFC”

Van Gaal’s side had played out stalemates in their last two Premier League games after goalless draws with Manchester City and Crystal Palace.
