Martin Skrtel has only got his hands on one piece of silverware since joining Liverpool in 2008.

The Slovakia international helped the Merseyside outfit win the League Cup at Wembley in 2012 after a penalty shootout victory over Cardiff City.

Skrtel has fallen short of winning the Premier League title in 2009 and 2014, whilst Liverpool lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup final months after their League Cup win.

However, the 30-year-old centre-half was happy to reflect on the first major trophy of his career after Skrtel helped Zenit St Petersburg win the Russian Premier League title in 2007.

Skrtel wrote on his Instagram page: “On this day 8 years ago i won my first major trophy with zenit st.peterbourg…#fczenit #champions #zenitchampion #zenitpiter #russianpremierleague #m37s”

The Liverpool centre-half has scored 15 times in 231 Premier League games during an eight-year career at Anfield.

Skrtel moved to the Merseyside outfit from Zenit St Petersburg in a £6.5m deal in January 2008.
