Wayne Rooney has taken to Facebook to send a message to his son after he celebrated his sixth birthday on Monday.

The Manchester United captain endured a miserable weekend after he continued his goalless run in the Red Devils’s 0-0 stalemate with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

However, Rooney did have something to celebrate on Monday morning after his eldest son Kai turned six, taking to Instagram to post a collage of photos with his first-born.

Rooney wrote on his Facebook page: “Happy 6th Birthday to my son Kai 🎂🎉”

The 30-year-old United captain has scored two goals in 10 Premier League appearances this season.

Rooney has scored four goals in the Champions League and the League Cup but missed his spot-kick in their penalty shootout defeat by Middlesbrough last week.
