Liverpool centre-half Martin Skrtel reflects on his sensational half-volley
Martin Skrtel says he is happy with a rare goal for Liverpool after Saturday evening’s 4-1 victory over Manchester City.
The Slovakia international sealed three points for the Reds with a brilliant half-volley in the 81st minute at Etihad Stadium after Christian Benteke nodded the ball into the centre-half path.
Skrtel has scored 18 times in 309 games for the Merseyside outfit during a nine-year stay at Anfield but had failed to find the net in his last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal last December.
Remarkably, the 30-year-old defender has scored four of his 16 Premier League goals against City, with the centre-half admitting that he wouldn’t mind playing Manuel Pellegrini’s side “every week”.
And the Liverpool star posted the above snap on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption: “Great performance and the result!well done boys!happy to score the goal after such a long time👍✌️👊 #m37s #ynwa #liverpoolfc #teamspirit”
Liverpool are six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal after their 4-1 win at Etihad Stadium.
The Reds are unbeaten on the road in the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp.
