Roy Keane: Man United aren’t boring but need to be braver
Roy Keane defends Man United after Paul Scholes branded Louis van Gaal's side boring earlier this week
Roy Keane says Manchester United aren’t boring but admits the Red Devils do need to be braver.
The 20-time English champions eased to a 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday night thanks to Wayne Rooney’s headed winner in the 79th minute at Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal has talked about teams being defensive against United, but that’s nothing new
Keane’s former United team-mate Paul Scholes admitted that he wouldn’t like to play in Louis van Gaal’s “boring” side after having watched the Red Devils limp to victory over their Russian opponents.
However, the former Republic of Ireland international was rather more sympathetic in his assessment of United’s Champions League performance.
“I don’t watch them too often,” Keane told ITV Sport. “I don’t think they’re boring but they’ve been involved in some boring games recently. There is a big difference.
“They need to be braver, certainly the attacking players do. They need to take more risks and play quicker.”
Keane added: “Louis van Gaal has talked about teams being defensive against United, but that’s nothing new.”
The Red Devils are top of Group B and can qualify for the Champions League knockout phase with victory over PSV Eindhoven in their next European game at Old Trafford.
United have scored twice in five games in all competitions ahead of their clash against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
