Ryan Mason has poured cold water on talk of Tottenham Hotspur winning the Premier League title this season.

The north London side are unbeaten in 12 Premier League games following a 4-1 win against West Ham United at White Hart Lane in Sunday’s derby.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are a mere three points behind leaders Leicester City ahead of Sunday’s clash against defending champions Chelsea at The Lane.

However, Mason, who has dropped down the pecking order at Spurs following his recent injury problems, insisted Tottenham aren’t getting carried away with recent results.

“We can’t get carried away with ourselves. We’ve been doing brilliantly recently but football can change quickly,” Mason told his pre-match media conference on Wednesday afternoon.

“We are young, we are eager to learn and we are working hard on the training pitch. The gaffer isn’t going to mention winning the Premier League.”

Earlier this week, former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp urged Tottenham to concentrate on securing a top-four finish and to ignore talk of the north Londoners winning their first-ever Premier League crown.

“I don’t think they can win the title, but I think they should aim for top four,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“I just don’t think they’re good enough and there are much better teams. Without taking anything away from what they’re doing here because it’s fantastic, but I don’t think they’re ready to win the league yet. They’ll have good spells with these young players and they’ll have dips in form, but they can definitely make the top four.”

Tottenham face Chelsea at White Hart Lane in Sunday’s early kick-off.
