Steven Gerrard discusses Jurgen Klopp's ability to make his Liverpool players feel confident
Steven Gerrard says Jurgen Klopp has the ability to make his Liverpool players feel “really special”.
The Reds booked their place in the Europa League knockout phase on Thursday night after goals from James Milner and Christian Benteke sealed a 2-1 victory over Bordeaux at Anfield.
I’m an ex player and I came out of his office feeling really good and really confident. That’s what he brings
Liverpool have lost just once in 10 games in all competitions since the 48-year-old German took over the reins of the Merseyside outfit from his predecessor Brendan Rodgers in October.
Gerrard returned to Melwood training ground and met the former Borussia Dortmund manager earlier this week, and the charismatic Liverpool boss made quite an impression on the Reds legend.
“I got one [a Klopp hug] of him. They’re quite nice,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“He makes you feel good. He has got that enthusiasm. He is very infectious. He makes his players feel really special.
“I’m an ex player and I came out of his office feeling really good and really confident. That’s what he brings.
“He has lifted the whole club: the fans, the players and the staff. He has got Liverpool playing really well.”
Liverpool were impressive 4-1 winners against Premier League title favourites Manchester City at The Etihad last weekend after Eliaquim Mangala’s own goal and strikes from Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Martin Skrtel.
The Reds have won six of their last seven games in all competitions, including a brilliant 3-1 victory over defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
