Stuart Pearce issues England warning over Tottenham duo

Stuart Pearce says Roy Hodgson must play Dele Alli and Eric Dier or drop them to the England Under-21 side

Stuart Pearce has warned Roy Hodgson that he must play Dele Alli and Eric Dier or drop the Tottenham Hotspur duo the England Under-21 squad.

Alli was named the man of the match after an influential performance in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in Sunday’s north London derby.

Dier, who moved to Spurs from Sporting Lisbon last season, also impressed alongside the 19-year-old former MK Dons midfielder.

Hodgson included the Tottenham starlets in his latest England squad ahead of their games against France and Spain during the international break.

However, former England Under-21 manager Pearce, underlined the importance of Hodgson giving the duo game time for the senior side or allowing them to get more experience with Gareth Southgate.

“You’ve got to look at the likes of Dier and Alli that he’s brought into the squad. Play them, or put them back with the Under-21s,” Pearce told talkSPORT.

Alli has scored two times in 11 Premier League games for the north London side this season.

The 19-year-old rangy midfielder has also made four appearances in this term’s Europa League.
