Tottenham transfers: Andros Townsend posts Twitter message amid exit reports

Andros Townsend denies removing Tottenham Hotspur from his Twitter bio

Andros Townsend denied removing a reference to Tottenham Hotspur from his Twitter bio after the England international turned out for the club’s Under-21 side on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was part of a Tottenham development side that faced Middlesbrough after he was demoted to Spurs’ Under-21 set-up following an alleged row with one of the club’s fitness coaches.

Townsend, who has 10 England caps, hasn’t featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team since a 2-1 defeat by Anderlehct in the Europa League on 22 October.

The former Queens Park Rangers winger has been linked with a loan move to Swansea City, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Leicester City and Newcastle United ahead of the January transfer window.

One Twitter user claimed that Townsend had removed a reference to Tottenham from his bio and changed his profile photo, which would have suggested a White Hart Lane exit could be imminent.

However, Townsend wasted no time taking to the social media site to set the Spurs supporter straight.

The Twitter user, @Spurs_view, had deleted the initial tweet before Townsend cleared up the misunderstanding, but was quick to apologise to the Spurs midfielder.

Tottenham played out a goalless draw with defending champions Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
