Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Antonio Valencia will miss Manchester United’s clash with West Bromwich Albion due to injury.

The Ecuador international sat out Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League due to a thigh problem and has not recovered in time to face the Baggies.

Van Gaal also revealed that midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has been suffering with illness but trained with his team-mates on Friday morning.

The news was confirmed via United’s official Twitter account on Friday afternoon.

United head into Saturday’s clash with the Baggies in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City.

Wayne Rooney scored the winner as United beat CSKA in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday evening at Old Trafford following three successive goalless draws for the Red Devils.

Van Gaal’s men were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace in their most recent top-flight outing last weekend.
