Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update after Bayern thrashing
Hector Bellerin is not expected to be fit for Arsenal's clash with Tottenham on Sunday, Arsene Wenger reveals
Arsene Wenger has revealed that he does not expect Hector Bellerin to be fit for Arsenal’s north London derby showdown with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Spanish full-back sat out Wednesday night’s 5-1 Champions League thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich due to a minor groin problem, but speaking after the game in Munich, Wenger admitted that the 20-year-old is unlikely to return to action this weekend.
The Arsenal boss also confirmed that his side had picked up no fresh injuries during their humiliating defeat at the Allianz Arena.
“I don’t think Bellerin will be available for Sunday but there is a small chance. From tonight we don’t have any new injuries,” Wenger told a news conference in Munich after the game.
Goals from Bayern stars Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and David Alaba put Bayern 3-0 before half-time.
Arjen Robben made it 4-0 shortly after the break, and Olivier Giroud netted a volley in the 69th minute to pull one back for the Gunners.
However, Muller’s neat finish after a sweeping Bayern counter-attack added gloss to the scoreline as Pep Guardiola’s men secured a thumping victory.
