Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update after Norwich draw
Arsene Wenger delivers the latest Arsenal injury update on the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Laurent Koscielny and Santi Cazorla
Arsene Wenger has described Alexis Sanchez’s injury as a “big blow” to Arsenal’s title hopes after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Norwich City.
After setting up Mesut Ozil’s opener with a delightful through-ball in the first half at Carrow Road, Sanchez was forced off on the hour-mark after suffering a hamstring strain.
There were concerns over Sanchez’s fitness levels heading into the game, with the Chile international having endured a gruelling start to the season for both club and country following a hectic run of fixtures.
Arsenal also suffered two more injury blows at Carrow Road, with Santi Cazorla picking up a knee injury and Laurent Koscielny having been forced off with a hip problem early in the first half.
Wenger was quizzed about his decision to start Sanchez at Carrow Road after the game, but the Frenchman stood by his choice as he delivered the latest Arsenal injury update following the final whistle.
Wenger told Sky Sports: “We have three injuries because Cazorla played on one leg in the final part of the second half – he has a knee problem.
“Sanchez has a hamstring problem and Koscielny has a hip problem. How bad they are, I don’t know, we will have to see that tomorrow.
“Maybe the travelling to South America [played a part in Sanchez’s injury].
“I would have rested him today but he felt perfectly alright before the game and declared that he had no problem. I do not know how long he will be out but it is a big blow.
“Sanchez was an important loss today, he pushes defenders back and always is incisive with his dribbling.”
