Aaron Ramsey runs rule over Arsenal’s new midfield pairing
Aaron Ramsey discusses the performance of Arsenal's makeshift midfielder Calum Chambers
Aaron Ramsey has heaped praise on Arsenal’s makeshift midfielder Calum Chambers after Monday night’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth.
Arsene Wenger started the England international in midfield alongside Ramsey for the visit of the Cherries in the absence of Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin.
He definitely has a great future ahead of him
Chambers and Ramsey helped the north London side to keep a clean sheet against Eddie Howe’s men as Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League table.
Wales international Ramsey, who moved to Arsenal from Cardiff City in 2008, discussed Chambers’s performance in an unorthodox midfield role.
“I thought he did well,” Ramsey told Arsenal TV.
“He has a lot of quality. He showed that against Bournemouth and what he is a capable of doing. He can defend well and play as well.
“He definitely has a great future ahead of him.”
Chambers has found his first-team opportunities limited so far this season after falling behind centre-halves Gabriel Paulista, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in the pecking order.
The 20-year-old has started just four games for Arsene Wenger’s side so far this season, whilst Chambers has made a further nine appearances from the bench.
Arsenal are top of the Premier League table and ahead of second-placed Leicester City.
