Alan Shearer: Why Arsenal star Olivier Giroud should score 25 goals
Alan Shearer says Mesut Ozil's form means Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud should score 25 goals this season
Olivier Giroud should be scoring a minimum of 25 Premier League goals this season with Mesut Ozil pulling the strings for Arsenal, according to Alan Shearer.
The Germany international made Gabriel Paulista’s opener before he scored his third league goal of the season in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at The Emirates on Monday night.
Ozil, who moved to the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013, has already scored three times and has made a staggering 16 assists in just 18 Premier League games so far this season.
His Arsenal team-mate Giroud is the north London side’s top goal-scorer with 10 goals in 19 top-flight games, although the France striker couldn’t add to his tally against the Cherries.
Former Newcastle United striker Shearer, who is the Premier League’s record goal-scorer, insisted that Giroud can easily score in excess of 25 goals with Ozil in such rich form.
“With Ozil playing like he is and his ability to bend balls around defenders, to pick out runs in the box and pick out runs in behind, Olivier Giroud should be getting a minimum of 25 league goals with the number of assists and chances that he creates,” Shearer told Match Of The Day.
Arsenal’s 2-0 victory hoisted Arsene Wenger’s side above Leicester City and into top spot in the Premier League.
