Alan Smith states his prediction for Arsenal v Man City
Alan Smith is tipping Arsenal to edge to victory over Manchester City at Emirates Stadium on Monday night
Alan Smith is backing Arsenal to beat Manchester City in Monday night’s crunch Premier League clash at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners head into the game knowing that a victory would move them to within two points of second-placed Leicester City over Christmas.
Arsenal are currently in second place in the Premier League table and have been tipped by many to be capable of mounting a serious title challenge this season.
And former Gunners Smith reckons that Arsene Wenger’s men have what it takes to beat the Citizens in north London and lay down a marker for the rest of the campaign.
Smith told The Telegraph: “I am obviously rooting for Arsenal and I think they might just do it.
“Last season’s win at the Etihad should give them confidence but they have got to defend just as effectively, this time without Francis Coquelin.
“Going forward, though, they have Mesut Ozil, a creator bang in form. The same goes for Olivier Giroud, who might find some joy in Kompany’s absence.”
Arsenal, who finished third last season, beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park last weekend after securing their place in the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face Barcelona.
The north London side have won the FA Cup at Wembley for the last two seasons running.
