Arsenal transfers: Ian Wright wants Victor Wanyama signing
Ian Wright explains why Arsenal should sign Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama
Ian Wright says Arsenal need to sign a player like Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama in the January transfer window.
The Gunners are currently dealing with an injury crisis with Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta all sidelined with fitness problems.
Arsene Wenger has remained tight-lipped on the prospect of the north London side entering the January transfer market ahead of Monday night’s clash against Manchester City.
However, former Gunners striker Wright would love to buy Wenger a top defensive midfielder like Southampton’s Kenyan star Wanyama if the former England international was in charge of Arsenal’s transfer funds.
Wright told BT Sport: “I’d buy him [Wenger] a holding midfielder to go with [Francis] Coquelin. Maybe someone like [Victor] Waynama. Someone big and strong like Wanyama.”
Twenty-four-year-old Wanyama has made 14 Premier League appearances for the Saints so far this season.
Wanyama has been previously linked with a move to Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman managed to keep Wanyama at St Mary’s following the summer’s transfer window despite reported interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
