Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez hints at a move in the summer transfer window amid Arsenal and Man United interest
Riyad Mahrez has hinted at a move away from Leicester City in the summer transfer window amid reported interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.
The Algeria international inspired the Foxes to three points over defending champions Chelsea on Monday night after he teed up Jamie Vardy for the home side’s opener before Mahrez curled a delicious finish past Thibaut Courtois.
Mahrez has scored 11 goals and has made seven assists in 15 Premier League games for Claudio Ranieri’s side this season as underdogs Leicester moved to the top of the table and two points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
While the Leicester playmaker ruled out a January move amid Arsenal, Barcelona and United interest, but Mahrez did hint at a potential summer transfer.
“It’s best for me to stay until the end of the season,” Mahrez told RMC.
“I was at Le Havre, I had six months left but nobody came to get me. Leicester tried very hard to get me.
“I could feel that they wanted me. I took the decision without knowing the culture or the area. It was a risk.
“When you come from far away and you end up in the Premier League it makes you happy. I am happy that I signed for Leicester.”
England international Jamie Vardy broke the deadlock with his 15th goal in 16 Premier League games against the defending champions at King Power Stadium on Monday night.
Reported Arsenal target Mahrez doubled the home side’s lead with a brilliant individual strike after half-time before Loic Remy netted a late consolation for Chelsea in a 2-1 defeat.
