The France international has been at Old Trafford just over six months after 25-year-old moved to United in a £25m deal from Southampton in the summer transfer window.
Initially, Schneiderlin impressed in the Red Devils midfield alongside Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger, but the former Saints man has struggled in recent months.
And former Arsenal playmaker Nicholas believes it could be worth Arsene Wenger’s time to test United’s resolve and launch a cheeky bid to sign Schneiderlin as the Gunners boss attempts to improve his midfield options.
“They have not found a solution to this position,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“Wenger stumbled across Coquelin and he needs to buy someone with the authority to fill the position.
“I have always said (Morgan) Schneiderlin, who is struggling at Manchester United, can they get him?”
Schneiderlin has scored one goal in 13 Premier League appearances so far this season after the midfielder’s big-money move to the 20-time English champions from the Saints.
The French midfielder was unable to inspire the Red Devils to victory over Chelsea after a goalless draw on Monday night.
