Arsene Wenger reveals Alexis Sanchez injury boost ahead of Arsenal v Man City
Arsene Wenger reveals that Alexis Sanchez could return for Arsenal's clash with Manchester City on 21 December
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez could make his return to action when Arsenal host Manchester City in the Premier League next Monday night.
Sanchez has been recovering from a hamstring injury in his native Chile with the help of his national team’s medical staff in recent days.
The 26-year-old has not featured for Wenger’s men since suffering the muscular strain during the 1-1 draw at Norwich City last month.
However, the forward is now closing in on a return to action and Wenger has hinted that he could be passed fit for the clash with the Citizens in north London on 21 December.
Speaking at his post-match news conference after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, Wenger said: “The closest to having a chance is Alexis.
“Medically, we think – my people think – he will not be ready [to face Manchester City] but Alexis being Alexis, you never know.”
Sanchez took to social media on Saturday evening to reveal that he was heading back to the UK after working on his fitness in his native homeland.
He has scored six goals and made one assist in 14 Premier League games for Arsenal so far this season.
Sunday’s victory over Villa lifted the Gunners to the top of the Premier League table. Olivier Giroud gave the Gunners the lead from the penalty spot, before Aaron Ramsey’s close-range finish.
