Arsene Wenger: Arsenal tried to sign Bayern Munich forward last season

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal were close to signing Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman but the player preferred Juventus

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal were close to signing Bayern Munich forward Kingsley Coman last season but the French starlet preferred a move to Juventus.

The teenager opted to join the Turin side from Paris Saint-Germain last term and he helped Massimiliano Allegri’s win a fourth straight Serie A title.

Coman was on the move again last summer after he opted to join Bundesliga giants Bayern on a two-year loan spell.

And Wenger, who could be without Alexis Sanchez in the coming weeks, confirmed that the north London side had come close to landing one of Europe’s most-exciting prospects.

“Yes we really tried to sign Kingsley Coman in the summer of 2014,” Wenger told beIN sports.

“The transfer was almost completed, but he preferred Juventus.”

The 19-year-old has scored three times and has made two assists in eight Bundesliga appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

The French starlet has also netted one goal and made four assists in four Champions League games despite his relative inexperience.
