Bastian Schweinsteiger says he was disappointed Man United couldn't celebrate Anthony Martial's birthday with three points

Bastian Schweinsteiger has apologised to Anthony Martial after Manchester United failed to secure three points on the striker’s 20th birthday.

Louis van Gaal’s side were left frustrated by a disciplined performance from West Ham United in Saturday afternoon’s goalless draw at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils racked up 21 attempts on the Hammers’s goal but the 20-time English champions could only register one shot on target in 90 minutes.

Martial extended his goalless run in the Premier League to eight games after the France international struggled to test Hammers goalkeeper Adrian.

World Cup winner Schweinsteiger sent a message to Martial following Saturday’s stalemate on his Instagram page.

Schweinsteiger wrote: “Happy Birthday and all the best, @martial_9. Unfortunately, no win today to make your birthday even better!”

Martial has scored three goals in 10 Premier League games for the Red Devils this season.

The 20-year-old moved to United in a £36m deal from Ligue 1 side Monaco in the summer transfer window.
