Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Wolfsburg v Man United
Charlie Nicholes is expecting Manchester United to be dumped out of the Champions League on Tuesday
Charlie Nicholas is tipping Wolfsburg to beat Manchester United 2-1 in Tuesday night’s crunch Champions League clash in Germany.
The Red Devils take on the Bundesliga outfit knowing that they need a victory to guarantee their place in Europe’s elite club competition.
I’m not sure they have the goals in them when it counts
Louis van Gaal’s men have been struggling to find consistent form in recent weeks and were held to a goalless draw by West Ham United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.
Former Arsenal man Nicholas feels that the Red Devils are going to struggle to get the right result in Germany and is expecting United to be dumped out of the competition.
Nicholas told Sky Sports: “United need to win and focus on doing so as I expect PSV will get the three points they need with CSKA already out of contention.
“The problem is that if you start worrying about all the scenarios it can over-complicate things and distract you.
“Wolfsburg are fifth in the Bundesliga and, in Bas Dost and Max Kruse, they have goals in them, particularly at home, which is unlike United.
“I covered United at the weekend and I actually thought it was the best they’ve played in a while. They had 21 attempts but only one on target and the fans are really starting to get concerned, booing them off after the game.
“The real worry for me is, as strong as they’ve been at the back, I’m not sure they have the goals in them when it counts and I think they’re going to go out.”
United head into the game in fourth place in the Premier League table but just three points behind leaders Leicester City after 15 games.
The Red Devils travel to Bournemouth in their next top-flight game on Saturday evening as they look to return to winning ways.
