Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge draws inspiration from Conor McGregor
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge congratulates Conor McGregor on his UFC triumph
Conor McGregor knows a thing or two about having a high pain threshold after becoming the UFC featherweight champion on Saturday night.
The Irishman is ranked the best pound-for-pound fighter in UFC after he knocked out defending champion Jose Aldo inside 13 seconds at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Sturridge, on the other hand, has had his pain threshold questioned in recent weeks and suffered a fresh hamstring injury during last Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Newcastle United.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp discussed how the England striker needs to learn the difference between “real pain and pain” following an injury-hit 18 months.
And Sturridge certainly has an appropriate role model in the shape of Dubliner McGregor, hailing the newly-crowned UFC Featherweight champion as a “genius”.
Wow!!!
Gonna tuck myself into bed again after the @ufc
@LukeRockhold you're an animal and @TheNotoriousMMA you're a genius!! #newera

In a night of great fights, Sturridge also enjoyed watching his pal Anthony Joshua become the new British and Commonwealth champion after knocking out Dillian Whyte at The O2.
