David De Gea assesses Man United’s Premier League title chances

David De Gea insists that Manchester United have not given up hope of winning the Premier League title this season

David De Gea insists that Manchester United have not given up hope of winning the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils slumped to a disappointing 2-1 loss to Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening to leave Louis van Gaal’s men in fourth place in the Premier League table and six points behind surprise leaders Leicester City.

De Gea and his United team-mates are now gearing up for their top-flight clash with Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon as they look to bounce back to winning ways in front of their home fans.

And the Spanish shot-stopper believes that the Red Devils will be in with a chance of winning the title if they can keep within touching distance of the top of the table in the second half of the season.

De Gea told United Review: “I think that the Premier League is very competitive and there are a lot of strong teams, fighting hard to climb the table and fighting to win the league.

“It’s a real battle, this league is very tough to win and there will be a number of teams who will be in the shake-up for the title, like every year, and let’s just hope that we are right up there and in the hunt for that title at the end of the season as that would be very important.”

He added: “That’s what we all want, to stay up near the top, and to get to April and be in a position where we can win the league, that’s what we’re going to try to make happen.”

United have won eight, drawn five and lost three of their opening 16 games in the top flight.
