Thiago Alcantara has revealed that David De Gea tried to convince the Bayern Munich midfielder to join Manchester United in 2013.
The Spain international was a reported target for Louis van Gaal’s predecessor David Moyes before the playmaker moved to Bayern from Barcelona in an £18m deal.

Thiago was part of the Spain side alongside De Gea that won European Under-21 championship in 2011 while the shot stopper was still at Atletico Madrid.
And the 24-year-old spoke about De Gea’s attempts to lure his Spanish team-mate to Old Trafford over two years ago before he eventually moved to Bayern.
“There was never any firm proposal [from United]. David de Gea wanted me to join. He wrote a message on my match ball after we’d beaten Italy in the [U21 European Championship] final,” Thiago told Daily Mail.
“I’d have done the same with him. He is one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. You always want to play with the best. But it was always going to be Munich.”
Thiago has scored two goals and has made two assists in 12 Bundesliga appearances for the Bavarian club so far this season.
However, the Spanish playmaker has only started six German top-flight games amid intense competition for places at Allianz Arena.
The former United target has netted five times in 57 games acrosss all competitions during a two-year stay at Bayern.
