David James has blasted so-called experts that have been urging Liverpool to sign an expensive striker in January

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is still to settle on a first-choice striker with Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Divock Origi all starting upfront for the Merseyside outfit since the German took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October.

I don’t see an urgent need to buy anyone

The former Borussia Dortmund manager has been linked with a move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski over the past couple of months, whilst Fiorentina forward and former Manchester United man Giuseppe Rossi is another proposed target.

However, former Liverpool number one James, who won the League Cup with the Reds at Wembley in 1995, explained the Merseyside outfit shouldn’t waste a big transfer fee on a new striker in the January transfer window.

“Jurgen Klopp has said he’s happy with the squad he’s got and I can see why,” James told Liverpool Echo.

“It bothers me when I hear so called experts saying Liverpool have to spend big money on a striker. I don’t see an urgent need to buy anyone.”

The Reds have scored 20 times in 22 Premier League games this season.
