David Moyes: Why Arsenal star Mesut Ozil still has more to prove
David Moyes says the jury is still out on Arsenal's club-record signing Mesut Ozil
David Moyes believes the jury is still out on Arsenal’s club-record signing Mesut Ozil.
The Germany international has been one of Arsene Wenger’s outstanding players so far this season, making a staggering 12 assists for his team-mates in 14 Premier League games ahead of their trip to Villa Park.
Ozil was heavily criticised for an indifferent two seasons at Emirates Stadium following his £42.5m move to Arsenal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in August 2013.
While the World Cup winner has won over many of his critics in recent weeks, former Everton and Manchester United manager Moyes still isn’t convinced by the German midfielder.
“The jury is out a little bit on him. He is creating chances and making assists,” Moyes told Sky Sports.
“If you’re playing that No10 role then that is your job. Arsenal allow him to do that.”
The 27-year-old has scored two goals and has made 12 assists in 14 Premier League appearances for the north London outfit so far this term.
The Gunners midfielder has won back-to-back FA Cups since the German playmaker moved to Arsenal in his record deal from Los Blancos.
