David Moyes: Why Man United supporters should stay positive

David Moyes says Manchester United have plenty to play for this season

David Moyes says Manchester United can still have a successful season if Louis van Gaal’s side finish in the top four and win the Europa League.

The Red Devils suffered a setback in the Premier League on Saturday night after a surprise 2-1 loss to newly-promoted Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium.

The 20-time English champions were dumped out of the Champions League on Tuesday night following a 3-2 loss to Wolfsburg in their final group-stage game.

However, Van Gaal’s predecessor Moyes, who was sacked by Real Sociedad earlier this season, believes United still have plenty to play for despite a disappointing week.

Moyes told Sky Sports: “They have a great chance of finishing in the Champions League spot. They’ll be disappointed to be out of Champions League but they’ve got the Europa League to go for.

“They still have great chance to qualify for the Champions League through the Premier League. They’re still in the cup. They’ve got a good chance to get something out of the season.”

The Scot was sacked by United after less than 11 months in charge of the Red Devils following a 3-0 loss to his former employers Everton in April 2013.
