Ex-Spurs striker agrees with Arsenal manager’s assessment of Mesut Ozil
Former Spurs striker Garth Crooks hails Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil
Garth Crooks has agreed with Arsene Wenger’s assessment that Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is a complete player.
The Germany international made his 13th assist of the Premier League season so far after Ozil unselfishly teed up Aaron Ramsey for the north London side’s second goal in a 2-0 win at Aston Villa.
The World Cup winner has been in scintillating form for Wenger’s side after scoring two goals and making seven assists in his last 10 appearances in all competitions.
Former Spurs midfielder Crooks heaped praise on Ozil after another impressive performance from the Arsenal club-record signing.
“One of the reasons Villa struggled was that at no stage were the home side prepared to stand up the Gunners,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“This played straight into the hands of Mesut Ozil, who was magnificent again for Arsenal. He constructed their second goal with his usual dexterity as he casually laid the finish on a plate for Aaron Ramsey.
“The Germany international’s performance prompted Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to state in his post-match interview that he is the complete player. I’ll say – it’s Ozil’s 13th assist this season for the Gunners. Unlucky for Villa.”
The 27-year-old has scored two goals and has made 13 assists in 15 Premier League appearances for the north London outfit so far this term.
The Gunners midfielder has won back-to-back FA Cups since the German playmaker moved to Arsenal in his record deal from Los Blancos.
The north London side host title rivals Manchester City in their next Premier League game.
