Fantasy Football: Cech, Smalling and more – this weekend’s top picks
Iqbal Johal takes a look at the best picks for your Fantasy Football team ahead of this weekend's Premier League fixtures
Petr Cech (£5.7m) The Arsenal number one is the fourth highest scoring goalkeeper this season with 61 points and could have a quiet afternoon, against strugglers Sunderland. The 33-year-old has been a revelation since joining from city rivals Chelsea in the summer, and has been part of a tight Arsenal defence that has only conceded 12 times. He has kept six clean sheets with a seventh very much up for grabs on Saturday.
Aleksandar Kolarov (£.6.4m) The Serbian has been in terrific form this season and is the highest scoring defender, winning a total of 71 points. The 30-year-old scored his second goal of the season in Man City’s 3-1 win over Southampton, and is a threat at both end of the pitch. City travel to Stoke- the league’s lowest scorers on Saturday, and as well as a chance to keep a seventh clean sheet of the season, Kolarov offers an attack threat that can lead to even more points.
Chris Smalling (£6.8m) The England centre-back has been outstanding this season and has won Fantasy football players 68 points this season. Man United currently have the best defence this season with only ten goals conceded and eight clean sheets. Smalling has a couple of quiet weeks in Fantasy Football but that could change against a West Ham side with no win in four.
Ross Barkley (£7.2m) The 21-year-old scored his third goal in two league games in the 3-3 draw with Bournemouth – his sixth of the season. He won 13 points last week, making his total for the campaign 85, which has seen him win a place in both week 14 and overall Fantasy dream team. Everton host Crystal Palace on Monday night giving Barkley a good opportunity to continue on with what has been the form of his life.
Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) The £54m Man City record signing, has 69 points to his name this season, with two assists and a goal scoring 16 points for week 14. Since joining in the summer, De Bruyne has lit up the Premier League, scoring four and assisting six. With a trip to Stoke next up for City, it gives the Belgian the chance to extend his fine form of three goals in two matches.
Odion Ighalo (£5.8m) The Nigerian striker is the third-highest scoring striker with 86 points, 12 of those coming from last week’s victory over Aston Villa. He has adapted to life in the Premier League fantastically, scoring eight times and helping Watford defy early season expectations as they sit in 11th. With a home match against Norwich, Ighalo is favourite to add to his tally and is a bargain at under £6m.
A choice between three for this week’s captain. Jamie Vardy broke the record for scoring in consecutive games last week and could add to his 14 strikes, with a trip to struggling Swansea. Graziano Pelle has been in fine form with six goals, comes up against woeful Aston Villa, while Ighalo is in red-hot form and would be another smart pick.
