Former Chelsea boss: Why the Blues must stick with Jose Mourinho

Avram Grant says Chelsea are right to stick with Jose Mourinho despite their stuttering form

Avram Grant has issued his backing for Jose Mourinho following Chelsea’s stuttering start to the season.

The Blues have struggled to find consistent form this term and find themselves with an uphill struggle if they are to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

He is a good coach but, like any other person, he is facing tough times

The west London side have lost seven of their opening 14 Premier League games to leave their title defence in tatters.

Chelsea are currently 14th in the Premier League table heading into Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

The pressure has been mounting on Blues boss Mourinho in recent weeks following his side’s inconsistent form.

However, former Chelsea manager Grant feels that the Blues are right to stick with the Portuguese coach as he bids to turn their season around.

“It is not easy, but I think Jose deserves a chance,” Grant told Sky Sports News HQ.

“I didn’t like when they made him the genius, and I don’t like what they are doing to Jose now, saying ‘He is useless’ or something.

“It is not like this, it is too extreme. He is a good coach but, like any other person, he is facing tough times.

“He needs to show he can handle pressure but don’t judge him only by the quality of his interviews when he is under pressure. He is a good coach, a nice guy, and he can get out of it, for sure.”

Chelsea, who won the title at a canter last season and also lifted the League Cup, are 14 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.
