Former Liverpool star defends Jurgen Klopp after Newcastle loss

Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer says the Premier League title isn't won in December

Jason McAteer has leapt to the defence of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after a 2-0 loss at Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds suffered their first defeat since a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace last month after Martin Skrtel’s own goal and Georginio Wijnaldum’s stylish added-time strike for the Magpies.

Liverpool are nine points behind surprise leaders Premier League Leicester City after the Reds had been touted as potential title contenders ahead of Sunday’s trip to St James’ Park.

Former Sky Sports host Richard Keys couldn’t resist a dig aimed at Klopp ahead of Brendan Rodgers’s attendance on his beIN Sports show next month.

However, ex-Liverpool midfielder McAteer reminded Keys and any concerned Reds supporters that there are many games left in the Premier League season.
