Former Man United goalkeeper: Why Louis van Gaal isn’t only to blame
Raimond van der Gouw explains why Louis van Gaal isn't entirely to blame for Manchester United's slump
Raimond van der Gouw says the Manchester United players need to improve for Louis van Gaal.
The Red Devils slumped to their fourth defeat of the season at Old Trafford on Saturday after a 2-1 loss to promoted side Norwich City in the Premier League.
The 20-time English champions are winless in their last six games in all competitions after losing to promoted sides Bournemouth and Norwich City in successive weeks.
Louis van Gaal is contending with continued speculation surrounding his United future, with reports suggesting Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola could take over at Old Trafford.
However, former United goalkeeper Van der Gouw says Van Gaal isn’t the only person responsible for the club’s slump, highlighting the poor performances of the players.
“The manager is always responsible, but the players will have to look at themselves. It’s not the manager who is kicking the ball, they can do much better,” Van der Gouw is quoted as saying by SportsMole.
United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind surprise leaders Leicester City.
The Red Devils make the trip to Stoke City at The Britannia in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
