Gerard Houllier runs rule over Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp
Gerard Houllier says Jurgen Klopp is a Liverpool supporter
Gerard Houllier says Jurgen Klopp has always been a Liverpool supporter.
The Reds manager led his players in a salute of The Kop after the final whistle in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Sunday evening.
Klopp has wasted no time winning the Reds supporters over with his charisma, as well as some impressive results against Chelsea and Manchester United.
Houllier managed Liverpool between 1998 and 2004, winning the Uefa Cup, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Uefa Super Cup and Community Shield with the Reds.
And the Frenchman revealed that Klopp has always been a big Liverpool supporter, even before the 48-year-old manager’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’s successor.
Houllier told Daily Express: “Jurgen has personality.
“I know Jurgen from Uefa meetings and he has always liked Liverpool. He had a passion for the club. He was always talking about Liverpool; what we did, how we lived.
“I can tell you he was a true fan of Liverpool and he was following the results before going there.”
Liverpool are in ninth place in the Premier League table and five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
The Reds make the trip to promoted side Watford in their next top-flight outing at Vicarage Road on Sunday.
