Graeme Souness: This Man United star isn’t any better than Michael Carrick
Graeme Souness says Bastian Schweinsteiger is surviving at Man United on his reputation
Graeme Souness says Bastian Schweinsteiger is surviving at Manchester United on his reputation and the Bayern Munich legend is no better than Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils limped out of the Champions League on Tuesday night after a dramatic 3-2 defeat by Bundesliga side Wolfsburg upon Schweinsteiger’s return to Germany.

The 31-year-old Champions League winner lasted 70 minutes of the five-goal thriller before he was replaced as Louis van Gaal looked to mastermind a late United comeback.
Schweinsteiger joined the 20-time English champions in a £6.7m deal from Bayern in the summer, but the World Cup winner has struggled in the United midfield.
Former Liverpool captain Souness isn’t impressed with the World Cup winner’s performances for the Old Trafford side, adding that the midfielder is past his best.
“I don’t see him being any better than Carrick,” Souness told TV3. “For a midfield player he has too many touches of the ball. He plays too deep. He hasn’t got the legs.
“He gets away with it because of his reputation.”
Schweinsteiger scored his first United goal in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City at King Power Stadium last month.
