Graeme Souness: Why this is worst Man United side in 25 years
Graeme Souness slams Louis van Gaal's Man United side after Champions League exit
Graeme Souness has blasted Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United as the worst in 25 years.
The Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League on a dramatic night in Germany on Tuesday after a 3-2 defeat by Wolfsburg.
Felliani wouldn’t get into any United midfield over last 25 years
The visitors squandered an early lead as the Bundesliga side booked their place in the last 16 alongside group rivals PSV Eindhoven at United’s expense.
Former Liverpool captain Souness, who won three European Cups during a distinguished career at Anfield, didn’t hold back in his assessment of the current United crop.
“Man United are a very ordinary team who couldn’t get out of an ordinary group,” Souness told TV3.
“This is a shadow of a United team.”
Souness added: “Felliani wouldn’t get into any United midfield over last 25 years.”
The Red Devils gave their last-16 prospects a boost after Anthony Martial broke the deadlock in the 10th minute after he scored his first goal since October.
However, Wolfsburg scored either side of half-time to ease into a lead and leave United on the brink of an exit from Europe’s premier competition.
Schweinsteiger was replaced in the 70th minute before Josuha Guilavogui’s own goal gave the Red Devils late hope, but Naldo scored his second of the night to condemn Louis van Gaal’s to the Europa League.
