Guus Hiddink delivers latest Chelsea injury update on Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard took part in a light training session with Chelsea on Wednesday but is a doubt for Saturday's clash with Watford
Guus Hiddink has revealed that Eden Hazard took part in a light training session on Wednesday ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Watford on Boxing Day.
The Belgian playmaker has been out with a hip injury and sat out last weekend’s 3-1 win over Sunderland at Stamford Bridge in what was Chelsea’s first game since Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
He needs to get that eagerness to perform back
Hazard, like most of his Chelsea team-mates, has been struggling to produce consistent performances for the west London side during the Blues’ stuttering start to the season.
And Hiddink, who has been placed in temporary charge of Chelsea until the end of the season, says that the PFA player of the year will need to step his game up in the coming weeks and months.
Speaking at a Chelsea news conference at the club’s training ground on Wednesday morning, Hiddink said: “He had a terrific season last year and it’s normal to have a little setback.
“He can be a key player when he is captain of the Belgium national team, but also here he can be a key player when he gets back in shape.
“He was unlucky to be injured recently but with him he needs to get that eagerness to perform back.”
Chelsea are currently 15th in the Premier League table after nine defeats in their opening 16 games left their top-flight title defence in tatters.
