Harry Redknapp has revealed that he has placed a bet on Arsenal to end their long wait for the Premier League title this season.

The north London side have not won the top-flight title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign but have been tipped by many as capable of mounting a serious challenge for the trophy this season.

Arsenal take on Manchester City at Emirates Stadium in Monday night’s crunch Premier League clash in north London, with the Gunners knowing that a victory would move them back to within two points of surprise leaders Leicester City over Christmas.

And former Tottenham manager Redknapp has revealed how he opted to back Arsene Wenger’s men to win the title before the season had kicked off.

Redknapp told The Telegraph: “I put a bet on Arsenal to win the league before the season started and felt stupid when they lost to West Ham on the opening day, but they’ve recovered and look good.

“[Manchester] City were threatening to run away with it and while they’ve had some bad beatings they will still be in there at the end.”

He added: “United, Chelsea and Spurs don’t look capable and I’m afraid to say that Leicester will run out of steam at some point.”
