Ian Wright reacts on Twitter to Mesut Ozil’s form for Arsenal
Ian Wright is expecting big things from Mesut Ozil at Arsenal in the coming seasons
Ian Wright believes that Mesut Ozil is capable of emulating the likes of Dennis Bergkamp at Arsenal if he continues his current form.
The Germany playmaker has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season and inspired the Gunners to a 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Monday to lift Arsene Wenger’s men to the top of the table.
Ozil, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, has already notched up 16 Premier League assists for the north London side this season.
And Arsenal legend Wright is convinced that Ozil has the ability to establish himself as one of the club’s greatest-ever players.
Wright said on Twitter: “At the moment, the way Mesut’s playing, he is easily one of the best in the world.
“There’s a comparison now starting to be made with the king himself, Dennis Bergkamp. I wouldn’t say it’s unfair on Mesut because he’s got the ability to be on the same level at some stage with Dennis Bergkamp.
“I think he needs more time at Arsenal for people to really see what he’s about. Once they get players around him like Dennis did – like Thierry [Henry], Patrick [Vieira] and Robert Pires – if we can get more players like that around Mesut, then we’ve got a real monster on our hands at Arsenal.
“Someone will build a team around Mesut Ozil which will absolutely dominate. His time’s come and long may it continue, what he’s doing at the minute.”
Ozil will be expecting to feature when Arsenal return to Premier League action with a home clash against Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The World Cup winner has scored three goals in the league for Wenger’s men so far this season.
