Jack Wilshere: Why this was a key moment in Arsenal’s history
Jack Wilshere describes Arsenal's FA Cup win in 2014 as a crucial moment in the club's history
Jack Wilshere has described Arsenal’s FA Cup win in 2014 as a crucial moment in Arsenal’s recent history.
The north London side came from two goals down to beat Hull City 3-2 in the Wembley final and win their first major trophy since 2005 under Arsene Wenger.
Much had been made of Arsenal’s lack of silverware following the north London club’s move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium.
And Gunners midfielder Wilshere admits that the triumph in 2014 was a key moment for Wenger’s side.
Wilshere told Arsenal Player: “I think it was important that we won our first trophy after so long. We had our chance a few years back in the League Cup and we blew it.
“That was really the story of that season and we struggled for a few seasons and finally found our feet again and looked like we had a chance of winning the league.
“At the end of the day when you look back at your career you are judged on the trophies you have as player and as a manager so it was important to get our first one.”
Wilshere is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery on a broken leg at the start of the season. The England international is currently on schedule to return to action for the north London club in the new year.
Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Leicester as they gear up for their crunch clash with Manchester City at Emirates Stadium on Monday night.
