Jamie Carragher believes Tottenham Hotspur are Premier League title contenders after their 2-1 victory over 10-man Watford at Vicarage Road.

The north London side edged into a first-half lead courtesy of Erik Lamela’s brilliant individual goal before Nathan Ake was sent off for a dangerous challenge.

However, the Hornets could have taken the lead but were denied a winner by goal-line technology before substitute Son Heung-min netted a back-heel in added time.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher expressed his shock at his own tweet after the Sky Sports pundit talked up Spurs as title contenders.

Carragher went on to explain why Mauricio Pochettino’s squad are capable of launching a title challenge after moving to within three points of leaders Leicester City.

The Foxes can restore their lead on Tuesday night if Claudio Ranieri’s side beat title rivals Manchester City at King Power Stadium.
