Jamie Carragher makes big claim about Tottenham’s season

Jamie Carragher is expecting big things from Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of the season

Jamie Carragher believes that Tottenham Hotspur will have “no problem” securing a top-four finish this season and says that Spurs must now be considered as outsiders to win the Premier League title.

The north London side have been one of the top flight’s most consistent teams so far this season and are currently in fourth place, four points behind leaders Arsenal heading into the new year.

I think now they have an outside chance for the title

Spurs have only lost two Premier League games this season and have produced a number of impressive performances under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

And former Liverpool defender Carragher is convinced that the Lilywhites have what it takes to mount a serious challenge for the title in the second half of the season.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Wednesday, Carragher said: “You see the gap now with Spurs and below them. There has been talk all season of top four for them – I think they’ll have no problem getting top four, Spurs. I think now they have an outside chance for the title.

“We spoke about Leicester being the one you’d never expect [to challenge] and Tottenham’s never a name I associated with winning titles, really. You always expect them to be in the Europa League positions.

“But the job Pocchetino’s done, the team that they’ve got, the goalkeeper, the striker, the two centre-backs – everything points to what a great job he’s doing there. At this moment, they’re the most consistent.”

Tottenham’s next game is a Premier League trip to face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs finished fifth in the top flight last term as they were forced to settle for a Europa League spot.
