Jamie Carragher makes claim about Arsenal at The Emirates
Jamie Carragher says Arsenal were more difficult to play against at Highbury than The Emirates
Jamie Carragher has claimed that Arsenal were more difficult to play against at Highbury than The Emirates.
The Gunners moved to their new 60,000-capacity stadium in 2006 after playing their home games at Highbury for 93 years.
Carragher lined up for Liverpool at both Highbury and The Emirates during his career – and the former Reds defender says that the games in Arsenal’s old ground were always tougher affairs than the one following the switch.
Speaking on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “I found it more difficult at Highbury than The Emirates.
“You’d think the bigger pitch would make it more difficult, but playing against that side of (Patrick) Vieira and Thierry Henry, I think that was my toughest assignment.”
Arsenal are now gearing up for their crunch Premier League showdown with Manchester City at The Emirates on Monday 21 December as they look to secure a victory and lay down a marker ahead of the hectic festive period.
Arsene Wenger’s men head into next week’s game in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind surprise leaders Leicester City after 16 matches of the new campaign.
