Jamie Carragher predicts where Arsenal will finish this season
Jamie Carragher has his say on Arsenal's Premier League title chances after their 2-1 win over Manchester City
Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Manchester City has made them the favourites to win this season’s Premier League title.
The Gunners moved back to within two points of leaders Leicester City after a battling win against Manuel Pellegini’s men in north London on Monday night.
They’ve got to take advantage of these teams dropping off
Asked if Arsenal are now the favourites to win their first title since 2004, Carragher told Sky Sports: “Yes – just.
“The four-point cushion that they’ve got [over City] and the way they’re playing – I think they’re just favourites.”
Carragher continued: “I said before the game that it was one of biggest league games Arsenal had had in years. They’ll need the four-point cushion they’ve got now on City because of the away games they’ve got coming up.
“Beating big teams has been a massive problem for Arsenal these last few years.
“I wouldn’t say Arsenal have gone to another level this season – I think the other teams have dropped off and Arsenal have maintained the level they’ve had for the last couple of years.
“But they’ve got to take advantage of these teams dropping off – because next year they’ll be back and better. They’ve got to take advantage of the problems that other clubs have got.”
Theo Walcott fired the home side into the lead in the 33rd minute with a superb low shot into the bottom corner.
Olivier Giroud then doubled Arsenal’s lead on the stroke of half-time when he slotted his finish between Joe Hart’s legs.
Yaya Toure pulled one back for the visitors with eight minutes left with a superb shot into the top corner to set up a tense finale.
However, the north London side held on to move four points clear of Manuel Pellegrini’s men in the table
