Jamie Redknapp: Only Man City star better than Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge
Jamie Redknapp says Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge is the second-best striker in the Premier League
Jamie Redknapp says Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge is the second-best striker in the Premier League behind Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.
The 26-year-old scored twice in the space of four first-half minutes to help Liverpool overturn Sadio Mane’s opener for Southampton at St Mary’s on Wednesday night.
Sturridge’s team-mate Divock Origi went on to score a hat-trick, whilst England Under-21 international Jordon Ibe came off the bench to score in the League Cup quarter-final.
The Liverpool forward has been limited to just five appearances in all competitions after an injury-plagued start to the season.
But former Reds midfielder Redknapp still rates Sturridge as one of the best strikers in the Premier League despite is well-documented injury problems.
“I still think only Aguero is better [as a striker] in the Premier League,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “When he’s in this sort of form, he is unstoppable.
“To have Daniel Sturridge back… he turned that game on his head with two moments of brilliance.
“When players have been out for a long spell, you wonder how they’re going to come back, but this is what he is all about.”
Sturridge has scored four goals in five games in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit this season.
