Joe Cole: Why Chelsea can still win Premier League title

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole runs the rule over the Blues's title prospects

Joe Cole says Chelsea can still win the Premier League title this season.

The west London side are already a staggering 17 points behind surprise Premier League leaders Leicester City after 15 games.

You’ve got to stick with the manager and let him do what he does best

Jose Mourinho’s defending champions make the trip to Claudio Ranieri’s high-flying Foxes at King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Cole won two Premier League title under Mourinho during the Portuguese manager’s first reign at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2007.

And the former England international explained why Chelsea are still capable of defending their Premier League crown despite a poor start to the season.

“Anything is possible, and that’s why we watch football. You can’t rule them out as champions… that team could beat everyone from now until the end of the season,” Cole told Sky Sports News.

“I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but it’s football. It’ll be interesting in the next few weeks. The fans haven’t turned, they’re right behind the manager and the chairman.

“The main thing you’ve got to think about is you’ve got the best manager in the world ther fact. That’s not down to opinion, he’s the most decorated over the different leagues.

“For Chelsea to move forward, you’ve got to stick with the manager and let him do what he does best. I don’t think anyone can dispute his record and I’m sure he’ll be relishing turning it around.”

Mourinho’s men suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat by newly-promoted Bournemouth in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

The four-time English champions have already lost eight times in the English top-flight this season.
