John Barnes states his prediction for Newcastle v Liverpool

John Barnes is tipping Liverpool to continue their recent resurgence under new manager Jurgen Klopp when they take on Newcastle United this weekend.

The Reds were in sublime form as they swept Southampton aside 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Liverpool have been in solid form since Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield back in October and the Reds head into Sunday’s game in sixth place in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Manchester City after 14 games.

And former Liverpool star Barnes is tipping the Merseyside outfit to beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

Barnes wrote in his blog for Titanbet: “Playing away from home will suit Liverpool against a Newcastle team that will have to come out and play at St James’ Park.

“I think it’ll be a fourth win on the spin for Klopp, as Steve McClaren’s men are in a very poor run of form. The goal-scorers [will be] Daniel Sturridge and Christian Benteke.”

Liverpool have won three of their last four games under Klopp in the Premier League, including impressive victories away to Chelsea and Manchester City in recent weeks.

The Reds will face Stoke City in the semi-finals of the League Cup in January.
