John Barnes: This is what Liverpool should do in the January transfer window
Liverpool legend John Barnes discusses the forthcoming January transfer window
John Barnes has urged Jurgen Klopp not to focus on strengthening his Liverpool squad in just one position next month as the January transfer window looms large.
The Reds have been linked with a host of players in recent weeks as the mid-season window approaches and Klopp looks to bolster his side to boost their chances of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Lucas Moura and Alexandre Pato are among the players to have been touted as possible targets for the Merseyside outfit this month before the transfer window opens in the new year.
It has been suggested that the Reds need to bring in a new attack-minded player – but former Liverpool star Barnes feels that Klopp should be setting out to bolster his squad as a whole and not target just one position.
Barnes wrote on his blog for Titanbet: “Liverpool have hard-working players who are strong and physical, but going forward they do lack that cutting edge without Philippe Coutinho.
“Some people have suggested Klopp should target a player similar to Coutinho in January, but don’t forget Roberto Firmino is more than capable of playing in that role.
“That’s why I don’t think Klopp will necessarily focus on strengthening one position in January. It’ll be a question of improving the quality of the team all over if possible.”
