John Barnes: Why Jose Mourinho has great chance of Man United job

John Barnes explains why Jose Mourinho would be a great appointment for Man United

John Barnes believes Jose Mourinho would be the perfect appointment for Manchester United.

The 52-year-old Portuguese coach is being linked with Louis van Gaal’s position at Old Trafford after Chelsea sacked the outspoken manager on Thursday following their ninth Premier League defeat of the season last week.

I believe it will be Mourinho. I think he’d be a perfect fit

The Red Devils suffered a shock 2-1 defeat by promoted side Norwich City at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon as United extended their winless run to six games in all competitions.

Mourinho has won three Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge, whilst the Blues legend has also won top-flight crowns in Portugal, Italy and Spain, as well as winning the Champions League twice.

And former Liverpool captain Barnes believes Mourinho would be a great appointment for United if the 20-time English champions decide to make a change at Old Trafford.

Barnes told Sky Sports: “To go back to that at United – are the team good enough to go back to the United way? If so, they’ll have to go for Ryan Giggs.”

“They’re out of the Champions League. I think they’ll miss the top four either way,” Barnes continued.

“I believe it will be Mourinho. I think he’d be a perfect fit.”

United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and nine points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
