John Hartson believes Manchester United could appoint Jose Mourinho as their next manager after Chelsea sacked the outspoken Portuguese coach on Thursday.
The defending Premier League champions parted company with the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager after Chelsea suffered their ninth top-flight defeat of the season on Monday night.
The Blues were left trailing surprise leaders Leicester City by 20 points in the table after the Foxes’s were convincing 2-1 winners against the Premier League holders at King Power Stadium.
Louis van Gaal is facing his own crisis at Old Trafford after the Red Devils extended their winless run to five games following a 2-1 loss to promoted side Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
Former Arsenal and West Ham United striker Hartson claimed that the 20-time English champions could consider appointing Mourinho as their next manager if United don’t improve under Van Gaal.
